Important Tips For Your Myo Journey

Three times a day, for a few minutes. That’s all you need to do! Pair your exercises with daily tasks like brushing your teeth, commuting to work, etc. We can work together to identify times that will be best for you. There will also be one passive exercise that you will do while watching TV, doing house chores, etc.

Check the boxes! Studies have shown that physically checking those boxes is very rewarding and motivating. Be proud! Hang it on the fridge. Reward yourself (or your kiddo) for your hard work. This is also important for me as your therapist to monitor your progress and decide when to move on. Photos of the sheet can be sent to me via email or text as needed.

If it hurts STOP. Fatigue or mild soreness can be expected, like any new exercise routine but there should not be pain. Let me know right away if something is hurting you.

Clean hands well (soap & water for 20 seconds or use a generous amount of hand sanitizer and rub hands until dry) before doing any exercises with hands in the mouth. Gloves can be used as well.

Sit up straight! Imagine your back, shoulders, and head are taped to a board.. Correct posture is essential.

Nasal breathing. This may be the most important goal we will work towards for your whole body health! We will go over nasal unblocking exercises to be done as needed, nasal decongestion techniques, and mouth taping.

Stay hydrated and well rested. We will be working your muscles in new ways, hydration and rest will help minimize fatigue.

Remember to bring your “myo tools” to your appointments. These will be provided in your Myofunctional Therapy Toolkit. Also bring your smartphone to record video of yourself (or your child) doing the exercises if the session is in person. This will be helpful for you to see how well you are doing with the movements. I also have demonstration videos available.
