Let’s Work Together

  • My 7 year old son Parker is a bright and hardworking kid but is misunderstood by peers and strangers because of his tongue/speech dysfunctions. We were recommended to see Laura by a coworker of mine who was also a patient of Laura's. We are very happy with the information, service and therapy Laura has provided. Laura McCaslin was caring and patient both in the office and when we had multiple troubles with technology (sleep study machine). Laura is always accessible by text, email, or when we cannot make the 1 hour + drive and she is available on zoom. Laura provided us with information, links to helpful guides at home, and plenty of supplies to complete our therapy. Parker was sick with a fever for a week, and he missed some practice due to that and Laura was understanding and willing to work with our needs and schedule. The reception during checkout or appointment scheduling is always pleasant at Lakes Region Dental. We would recommend Laura because of her character and expertise and the office for being welcoming, professional, easy to get a hold of and accommodating.

  • We have been working with Laura after our dentist recommended that my child see a myofunctional therapist. She has been excellent to work with. She's very patient and friendly. My child feels very comfortable with her. Laura has an easy-to-follow plan, explains the exercises well, and provides additional videos for reference if needed. She was understanding of our concerns as we debated whether or not to remove my child's mild tongue tie. When we decided to go ahead with the procedure, she gave lots of support both before and after. We have learned a lot from Laura and believe we are already seeing benefits from the exercises my child has been doing.

  • Our son is seven years old and is diagnosed with autism and childhood apraxia of speech. He is non-speaking and uses a "talker" (augmentative and alternative communication [AAC]) to communicate his wants and needs. We learned of myofunctional therapy from both of our speech therapists and decided to research it a bit more. Both of the speech therapists that we see recommended Laura, not only because she is located in central Maine, but she is wonderful to work with. We also mentioned to our local dentist that we were seeing Laura for myo and they too spoke very highly of her and her services for the patients that they mutually share. Myo therapy with Larua has been an excellent experience thus far. She is professional, flexible, and always willing to help when needed. We have done both in-person therapy sessions as well as virtual; both of which met our needs. As my son has communication difficulties and is on the autism spectrum, we often need to adapt our therapeutic strategies to help him understand and complete the task at hand. Laura has been extraordinarily helpful in this process, by offering alternative techniques, verbiage, and supplies. She is also well versed in working with children with special needs and my son and I both felt comfortable and welcomed with her and within her clinic space. My son was unable to complete a few of the therapy exercises so Laura pivoted his treatment plan to use a "myobrace" (mouthguard type device), which allows him to passively complete these exercises in a much easier fashion. She checks in with us frequently when we don't have scheduled sessions and is always available and willing to assist us in any way that we need. One of the complex barriers with myo therapy can be insurance related processes. Laura was forthcoming with this before we started therapy and provided us information on her billing procedures. Luckily we were able to work out coverage with our insurance company, but not without a bit of work. Laura was very helpful, supportive, professional, and understanding of the insurance company's many requests for information and paperwork. We continue to meet with Laura regularly and are very happy with the services she provides. I highly recommend Laura to anyone that would benefit from myo functional therapy.

  • "Thank you so much! I am grateful to you for teaching us and working with the girls. You are such a great teacher and encourager, it's a gift! My girls just adore you and I feel so much peace knowing they went through your program and had great results."

  • My name is Katy Fulton, and I am the Team Leader for the Speech Department at Gallant Therapy Services in Augusta. I specialize in speech sound disorders, helping children expand the speech sounds they produce to be more easily understood. I also help children learn to communicate. For clients, this takes patience, stamina, and a stable sensory state, which Laura helps contribute to by helping her clients with nasal breathing and quality sleep that help regulate their hormones. I have been recommending referrals to Laura for myofunctional therapy and collaborating with her since November, 2021. As a provider, Laura is extremely responsive. She seeks out providers in adjacent fields (e.g., orthodontists, ear nose and throat specialists, dentists, speech language pathologists, etc.) to collaborate with, and she establishes teams that parents have reported make them feel heard. Laura is detailed. Her thorough reports include visuals as well as written explanations. She also creates individualized home programs for families to follow. When there are questions, Laura makes herself available. Laura also extends the information she provides to families to her collaborators, like myself, when the information is relevant so we can support our clients as well. I highly recommend Laura for a myofunctional evaluation and myofunctional therapy.
